Picture framing FAQs
The things people most often ask before they bring a piece in. If your question isn't here, just call — we're happy to talk it through.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an appointment to bring something in?
No. Just call in during opening hours with your artwork or object and we'll go through the options at the counter. Advice and quotes are free and without obligation.
How long does bespoke framing take?
Most bespoke framing is ready within one to two weeks, depending on the materials chosen and how busy the workshop is. We always agree a collection date with you when you place the order.
How much does framing cost?
It depends on the size, the moulding, the mount and the glazing you choose, so we give a firm price once we've seen the piece. Bring it in and we'll quote on the spot — there's no charge for that.
Can you frame things other than pictures?
Yes. As well as prints, paintings and photographs we frame three-dimensional objects in box frames — medals, sports shirts, christening gowns, tools and keepsakes — plus tapestries, needlework, mirrors and canvases.
What is conservation (or museum) framing?
It uses acid-free mounts and backing, archival tapes and UV-filtering glass so that valuable or irreplaceable artwork is protected from fading, acid burn and moisture. We recommend it for original art, limited-edition prints and documents.
Do I have to buy a frame, or can you just cut a mount?
We're happy to cut a mount on its own, stretch a canvas, or supply glass to size. Not every job needs a full frame and we'll say so.
Can you copy or match an existing frame?
Often, yes. Bring the old frame in and we'll match the moulding as closely as the current range allows, or suggest the nearest equivalent.
Will UV glass stop my picture fading completely?
It significantly slows fading by filtering most ultraviolet light, but no glazing stops fading entirely — keeping work out of direct sunlight matters too. For valuable pieces we'll talk through the best combination.
Do you frame needlework and tapestries?
Yes, it's a speciality. Textiles are stretched square and supported so they sit flat and don't sag, then framed to show the work at its best.
Where exactly are you and is there parking?
We're at 121 Victoria Road in the centre of Ferndown, BH22 9HU, we have very limited parking behind our store and parking nearby in the town. See the contact page for directions.
